See, what had happened was...

Hello everyone!

I'm sure you've been wondering about The Fawn Shop 2009. Deanna, Erin, Janet and I were busy planning our little shop along and everything was going swimmingly. But, even the best made plans can fall through and that has happened to us this year. Ted & Katie Ukrop were extremely generous in allowing us use of the space at 201 W. Broad last year and had planned to allow us to use it again. However, the space has been leased and thus there will be no Fawn Shop for 2009. We scrambled looking for another space but unfortunately have been unable to find anything that fit our budget.

But hey, you know us - we are some crafty chicks and we wouldn't let you go without something. If you are looking for the indie craft goodness this holiday season you can find it at the following events. If you know of something great going on this holiday season please feel free to leave a comment and let us know.

We are all disappointed at the turn of events this year. Please keep this site bookmarked and check back around August for information on The Fawn Shop 2010. See you then!

With crafty love,
Dawn, Janet, Erin and Deanna

what is the fawn shop anyway??!

as informed by the Children's Museum [the new home for the legendary Santa]:

It all began seven decades ago….

….in 1936 when the real Santa Claus first visited the landmark Miller & Rhoads department store in downtown Richmond, thrilling scores of youngsters and launching a tradition that would become as rock solid as the city’s famed monuments. He selected the location as his seasonal headquarters and set up shop. No Christmas was complete until your mother, in her hat and gloves, took you, dressed in your holiday best, to see Santa at Miller & Rhoads.

It was a magical experience.

There would be the red-cheeked, genial Santa with his flowing white beard sitting on his grand throne, accompanied by the beautiful Snow Queen. Children could have Tea with Santa, complete with reindeer cookies, and even shop at their own pint-sized Fawn Shop. Generation after generation perpetuated the highly anticipated holiday ritual. Legions of true believers made the pilgrimage to Richmond, many coming from beyond city and state boundaries. So revered was the tradition that Santa became known as the Miller & Rhoads Legendary Santa…..
